I had the opportunity to speak with him over the phone to discuss his upcoming comedy Overboard, a remake of the classic 1987 romantic comedy with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, about a spoiled millionaire who suffers amnesia after falling off a ship.

According to Eugenio, who also produced the film, the swap was made to avoid direct comparisons with the performances of Russell and Hawn, but there was also another reason for this switch. “I wanted to break stereotypes,” the actor said in our telephone interview. “The obvious would be that the Latin was the carpenter, and she would be the millionaire, but it is not! This time around, the Mexican is the billionaire and she is the one who cleans the floor, “he explains.

About the film

MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures) and Pantelion Films comes one of the most iconic film romances set on a fresh new course as comedy titans Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris pair up for the first time in Overboard.

In a splashy new twist, Overboard focuses on Leonardo Montenegro, played by Eugenio Derbrz, a selfish, spoiled, rich playboy from Mexico’s richest family and Kate, played by Anna Faris, a working class single mom of three hired to clean Leonardo’s luxury yacht. Yet, when Kate staunchly refuses to honor Leo’s request to bring him some food, he unjustly fires her without pay. Then, Leonardo falls overboard when partying too hard and wakes up on the Oregon coast with amnesia. To get payback, Kate decides to show up at the hospital and convinces Leo he is her husband and pits him to work for the first time in his life.

The film, directed by Rob Greenberg and Bob Fisher, also stars Eva Longoria, Mel Rodriguez, Josh Segarra,
