Warner Bros. released yesterday that production is underway on New Line Cinema\u2019s \u201cShazam!\u201d. Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg, who brought us Lights Out (2016), directs the origin story, which stars Zachary Levi as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.\u00a0 Peter Safran serves as the film\u2019s producer. \u201cShazam!\u201d is set for release on\u00a0April 5, 2019.<\/p>\n
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.\u00a0 In Billy Batson\u2019s case, by shouting out one word\u2014SHAZAM!<\/em>\u2014this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero\u00a0Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard.\u00a0 Still a kid at heart\u2014inside a ripped, godlike body\u2014Shazam\u00a0revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!\u00a0 Can he fly?\u00a0 Does he have X-ray vision?\u00a0 Can he shoot lightning out of his hands?\u00a0 Can he skip his social studies test?\u00a0\u00a0Shazam\u00a0sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child.\u00a0 But he\u2019ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.<\/p>\n \u201cShazam!\u201d also stars Jack Dylan Grazer as Billy\u2019s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton; Darla, played by Faithe Herman; Eugene, played by Ian Chen; and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand.\u00a0 Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Ron Cephas Jones as the Wizard.<\/p>\n Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are serving as executive producers.<\/p>\n Sandberg\u2019s creative team includes his \u201cAnnabelle: Creation\u201d director of photography Maxime Alexandre, production designer Jennifer Spence, editor Michel Aller and costume designer Leah Butler. Set primarily in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, principal photography for the film is taking place in Toronto.<\/p>\n Firmly set in the DC universe but with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the character first appeared in\u00a0Whiz Comics\u00a0<\/em>in 1940 and was created by Bill Parker and C.C.
