La Cordillera<\/em><\/strong>, La Librer\u00eda<\/em>, \u00daltimos d\u00edas en La Habana<\/em>, Una mujer fant\u00e1stica<\/em><\/strong> and Zama<\/em><\/strong> have been nominated for Best Ibero-American Feature Film. Adri\u00e1n Lastra, Eugenio Derbez, Jackie Cruz and Martha Higareda announced all the nominations for the 17 categories at a ceremony held at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles on March 13.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Directors Alex de la Iglesia (Perfectos Desconocidos<\/em>), Fernando P\u00e9rez (\u00daltimos d\u00edas en La Habana<\/em>), Isabel Coixet (La Librer\u00eda<\/em>), Lucrecia Martel (Zama<\/em>) and Sebasti\u00e1n Lelio (Una mujer fant\u00e1stica<\/em>) <\/strong>will vie for the PLATINO Award for Best Director, while up-and-coming filmmakers Cecilia At\u00e1n and Valeria Pivato (La novia del desierto<\/em>), Carla Sim\u00f3n (Verano 1993)<\/em>, Claudia Huaiquimilla (Mala Junta)<\/em>, Javier Ambrossi, Javier Calvo (La Llamada)<\/em>, Natalia Santa (La defensa del drag\u00f3n)<\/em> and Patricia Ramos (El Techo)<\/strong> were nominated for the Best Ibero-American Feature Film Debut.<\/p>\n

Alfredo Castro (Los Perros<\/em>), Daniel Gim\u00e9nez Cacho (Zama<\/em>), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo<\/em>), Javier Guti\u00e9rrez (El Autor<\/em>) and Jorge Mart\u00ednez (\u00daltimos d\u00edas en La Habana<\/em>)<\/strong> are the final nominees for Best Actor. Antonia Zegers (Los Perros<\/em>), Daniela Vega (Una mujer fant\u00e1stica<\/em>), Emma Su\u00e1rez (Las hijas de Abril<\/em>), Maribel Verd\u00fa (Abracadabra<\/em>) and Sof\u00eda Gala (Alanis<\/em>)<\/strong> are in the running for the PLATINO Award for Best Actress.<\/p>\n

The movies Deep<\/em>, El libro de Lila<\/em>, Historia antes de uma historia<\/em>, Lino <\/em><\/strong>– Uma aventura de sete vidas<\/em><\/strong> and Tadeo Jones 2: El Secreto del Rey Midas<\/em><\/strong> are nominated for the PLATINO Award for Best Animated Film, while nominees Dancing Beethoven<\/em>, Ejercicios de memoria<\/em>, El Pacto de Adriana<\/em>, Los ni\u00f1os<\/em> and Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo<\/em><\/strong> are up for the PLATINO Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.<\/p>\n

The PLATINO Awards are distinguished by its Best Educational Values in a Feature Film award category, a major PLATINO cornerstone. The 2018 nominees are Como nossos pais<\/strong><\/em>, Handia<\/em>, La Mujer del Animal<\/em>, Mala Junta<\/em>, Una Mujer Fant\u00e1stica<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>During the press conference, the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts & Sciences (AMPAS) was bestowed with a Premio Platino for their contribution to Ibero-American Cinema. AMPAS president John Bailey was honored to receive this award.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need look no further than this year\u2019s Academy Award for the Chilean film <\/em>\u201cUna Mujer Fantastica\u201d starring Daniela Vega and directed by Sebastian Lelio to understand the growing importance of Ibero-American cinema on the world stage,\u201d said John Bailey. He continued,\u201cLos Tres Amigos\u201d from Mexico, Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro Inarritu, and Alfonso Cuaron continue to be leaders in the Hollywood mainstream, as well as international cinema ambassadors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. On a more personal level, I am honored to have worked with and be friends with the extraordinary actor\/ director from Mexico, Eugenio Derbez.\u201d<\/p>\n

After his outstanding performance as a presenter at the recent Academy Awards, Eugenio Derbez<\/strong>, one of the most internationally renowned and multi-faceted males in the Mexican audiovisual industry (actor, director, producer and screenwriter), will host the awards ceremony that will be held on April 29 at the Teatro Gran Tlachco in Xcaret<\/strong> (Riviera Maya, Mexico).<\/p>\n

An event of these characteristics represents a clear benefit to the economy of the country that hosts the awards, which is why Riviera Maya has made a strong commitment to the PLATINOS. \u201cGiven that tourism is culture, economy and society, whenever we support culture, like we’re doing now, we demonstrate tourism’s capacity to be a transforming power for people,\u201d says Marisol Vanegas, Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo.<\/p>\n
