Award-winning Brazilian cinematographer Carolina Costa has made a name for herself traveling the world shooting critically acclaimed feature films, documentaries and shorts. Costa studied at the University of the Arts in London, where she was mentored by Sue Gibson, the first female president of the British Society of Cinematographers. She continued her schooling earning her masters degree from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The talent cinematographer has been in acclaimed projects since the beginning of her career. Her first feature “The Chosen Ones” (2015) debuted at Cannes before winning five Ariel Awards, including Best Cinematography, at the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences. Costa was also in charge of second-unit cinematography for Luca Guadagnino\u2019s supernatural remake of “Suspiria” (2018), starring Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also did the cinematography of the coming-of-age drama “Hala” (2018), directed by Minhal Baig, which is streaming at Apple TV+. She also shot the drama “Icebox” (2018) and “Babenco: Tell Me When I Die”, winner of the Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary in Cinema, has been selected by the Brazil as its Academy Awards contender in the Best International Feature competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had the opportunity to talk to Carolina, via Zoom, about her latest film, WANDER DARKLY, starring Sienna Miller and Diego Luna, and premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
