CINDERELLA waltzed into The National Film Registry

In honor of the timeless classic CINDERELLA’s upcoming 70th anniversary and induction into the National Film Registry, Walt Disney Studios and the Library of Congress, in Washington DC, celebrated the film that taught us to “have faith in your dreams” with a fun-filled night last Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Library of Congress which included a screening, presentation and VIP Ball.

Dr. Carla Hayden, 14th Librarian of Congress, presented the film’s official certificate that inducted CINDERELLA into the National Film Registry to Mary Walsh, Managing Director of the Animation Research Library at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

CINDERELLA is Disney feature film number 16 that have been added to the registry, alongside with some other classic animation such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, Fantasia and Pinocchio. On the registry list that are some recent titles as well: 1994′s The Lion King – which is receiving an adaptation this summer, on July 19 -, added to the registry in 2013, and Toy Story entered in 2005.

During the ceremony, Mary Walsh mentioned the movie remains ever relevant as its 70th anniversary nears. “She lives in a reality that has a lot of challenges, which she faces with courage and perseverance while staying true to herself, believing in her dreams,” Mary said about the character.
