I caught up with President and CEO of LAIKA studios, Travis Knight, during the opening of exhibit From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical of LAIKA Experience, which took place at Universal Studios Hollywood. Travi spoke about how much he can relate to the Kubo and the Two Strings, which he also directed, and gave some advice to young kids. Let’s check it out the audio.
The interactive behind-the-scenes exhibit has been extended until August 28 and showcases the original sets, puppets and props from LAIKA, one of the world’s most acclaimed animation studios.
From the creators of Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, it comes Kubo and The Two Strings, the new contribution between LAIKA studios and Focus Features to the film industry for little ones. The animation takes place in an ancient Japan, where intelligent and kind Kubo, played by voice actor Art Parkinson, makes a living telling stories to people in a seaside town. But his relatively quiet life is shattered when he accidentally calls a spirit of her past that appears causing a severe storm. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey, voiced by Charlize Theron, and Beetle, voiced by Matthew McConaughey, and goes on an exciting quest to save his family and solve the mystery disappearance of his father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo has to face gods and monsters, including the vengeful King Moon and his aunts, the bad twin sisters, to unlock the secret of his legacy, gather your family and fulfill his heroic destiny.
Kubo and the Two Strings is now playing everywhere.
