From Executive Producer Robert Redford, Focus Features brings The Mustang! The powerful story about second changes. Directed by French female director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, The Mustang follows Roman, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, a convict in a rural Nevada prison who struggles to escape his violent past, is required to participate in an “outdoor maintenance” program as part of his state-mandated social rehabilitation.
Spotted by a no-nonsense veteran trainer (Bruce Dern) and helped by an outgoing fellow inmate and trick rider, portrayed by Jason Mitchell, Roman is accepted into the selective wild horse training section of the program, where he finds his own humanity in gentling an especially unbreakable mustang. Laure also wrote the script alongside Mona Fastvold e Brock Norman Brock.
The Mustang is expanding nationwide on March 22. The films also stars Bruce Dern, Josh Stewart, Connie Britton, Gideon Adlon, Noel Gugliemi, and more.
I had the opportunity to speak with American actor Jason Mitchell who plays Henry. Let’s check the exclusive video interview below where we talked about his character Henry, in learning a new skill, riding horses, working with Matthias Schoenaerts, and more.
Jason was best known for his character the rapper Eazy-E in the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton. In 2017, he starred in the blockbuster from Warner Bros. Studios, Kong: Skull Island, as well as Annapurna’s acclaimed drama Detroit and Netflix’s Mudbound. In Mudbound, he portrayed the veteran of World War II, Ronsel Jackson, and was acclaimed by the critics. On television, you can check him out on the second season of The Chi at Showtime, which premieres on Sunday, April 7.
