For this release, I had the opportunity to speak with Julie Hagerty who plays grandma Jan, the mother of Rose Byrne’s character, Ellie. Julie has been making audiences laugh for four decades, from her first character the flight attendant Elaine from Airplane! to her numerous performances on TV.

Her career is one of a kind! In my opinion, the secret is that she can keep a straight face in wacky situations!
But before you listen to our audio conversation, let me talk a little bit about her character. As Jan, she’s very excited and surprised that her daughter and her son-in-law Pete, played by Mark Wahlberg, had suddenly decided to adopt a kid. Not just one, but three.
During the interview, we spoke about the importance of a family, being part of this project, the director, the “face painting” [laughs] scene, upcoming projects, and more.
About the film
When Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, Pete and Ellie must hilariously try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hopes of becoming a family. The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Tig Notaro, Margo Martindale and Tom Segura.
